What happened on the 2007 Walk

June 23 2007

Thanks to all who took part in this year’s event. Thanks also to all the volunteers who made all the arrangements, manned the checkpoints, served the food, etc.

Here are a few Statistics

119 walkers started from Glandyfi
37 “ “ “ Staylitle
28 “ “ “ Llandinam
28 “ “ “ Devils Elbow

In all, 200 people finished the walk. This is a magnificent achievement and congratulations are extended to you all.
This means that about 12 people had to drop out for various reasons. Congratulations to you too for your efforts.

Now, some more numbers!
At the end, the stewards asked finishers if they had been sponsored and if so, roughly how much money did they raise.
In all, the total came to about ………. £35,000.

What a great effort. All the charities concerned will be very grateful

Stewards

Some of the stewardsSome of the stewards
Rotarians kept an eye on everyone’s progress by checking them in and out of the Checkpoints. Here are the Llandinam Stewards enjoying their work.

At least 36 people acted as Stewards during the day, some for them getting up very early indeed!

Having had lunch at Llandinam, the walkers then tackle the 900 feet ascent up to the Wind farm. This climb is over about a mile, so a gentle stroll for some, but tougher work for others!

Having reached the wind farm, the route flattens out, crossing the A483 near the Devils Elbow and runs along the Kerry Ridgeway from the Cider House to the Kerry Pole. Walkers with time to look around can enjoy magnificent panoramic views from here.
